Get in the sports documentary game.

Merge your love for sports and filmmaking with an MA in Sports and Media Storytelling from the Documentary Film Program (DFP) at Wake Forest University. The one-year course will take you through every aspect of sports documentary filmmaking, from production to distribution and everything in between — so you graduate with the skills, reel, and resources to break into the industry.

Graduate with more than a documentary degree.

The DFP isn’t limited to just the technical aspects of filmmaking. We’re dedicated to helping you tell the sports stories that inspire you and providing you with the resources to give you a career boost before and after you graduate.

Make industry
connections.

Work and collaborate with award-winning storytellers who play an active role in current industry conversations — like Creative Director Peter Gilbert (Hoop Dreams) and Chris Sheridan, who worked with some of America’s largest media brands.

Learn the business side of sports filmmaking.

In addition to the technical aspects of documentary filmmaking, we’ll show you to pitch your story, negotiate funding, and navigate the heavily competitive sports content marketplace.

Surround yourself with inspiration.

Located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, you’ll gain front-row access to DI sports teams and athletes, the ACC and Power 5 athletic conference — providing ample sources of inspiration and insight as you craft your film thesis.

“One of the big reasons why I chose Wake Forest was not only because of this program, but also because Wake Forest is in the ACC. This school has a lot of competitive sports programs, which gives me a better opportunity to network and really hone in my skills.”
